Information for Users of Internet Services
Revised Feb. 2015
This information is for users of internet services at Shepherdstown Public Library.
- Please log in on the computer sign-up sheet, giving beginning and ending times
of session. - Limit your computer sessions to 30 minutes, if other persons are waiting. Chat
functions are prohibited. No more than two persons working together may sit at
one workstation at any time. - Individual users are responsible for the sites they choose to access. As with
other library materials, restriction of a child’s access is the responsibility of the
parent or legal guardian. Parents should let their children know if there are
resources on the Internet that they do not want them to use. If possible, parents
or legal guardians should supervise their child’s use of the Internet. Library staff
will not be responsible for monitoring Internet use. - Printing is available from the printer attached to the Library’s computer. There is
a charge of 20 cents per side printed. The Library does not permit downloading
of files onto the computers themselves because of security restraints and the
danger of viruses. - There are resources on the Internet that are inappropriate to a public setting in such a small library. Inappropriate sites, as defined by the Library Board of
Trustees include, but are not limited to, hate groups, pornography; i.e. any
material that violates common decency. Use of inappropriate sites may result in
suspension of access privileges by the Library staff. - Users should, to protect their privacy, sign out of any accounts, close work sites
(e.g. Explorer) and return to the desktop display screen.
